Sharr Mountains is a mountain range in the Balkans that extends from Kosovo and the northwest of the Republic of Macedonia, to northeastern Albania. The current Kosovo Sharr National Park was established in 1986. The entire Sharr Massif is one of the largest and highest mountain ranges of the Balkan Peninsula, stretching between the Prizren valley and the Polog valley in the border areas of Kosovo and Macedonia.  The Sharr Mountains are rich in biodiversity and beauty.

Brezne is a small village in the municipality of Dragash, within Sharri Mountains in southern Kosovo. The Lake of Brezna is  located beside the village, which got its name by the village.

The Republic of Kosovo declared independence on 17 February 2008 and over the following days, a number of states announced their recognition, despite protests by Russia and others in the UN. As of 29 June 2013, 103 UN states recognise the independence of Kosovo and it has become a member country of the IMF and World Bank as the Republic of Kosovo.
