...First wonderful card of Suriname...certainly one of the hard-to-get countries in my collection... showing one of the most beautiful places in Paramaribo...amazing that it's all made just with wood...Héééél Erg Bedankt Adriaan who did volunteering work at the local zoo and now is travelling in the country!

The interior is not painted at all, on the left the baldachin of the Bishop's see and on the right the adorned screens of the baptistery.
St. Peter and Paul Cathedral in Paramaribo is the largest wooden building in the Caribbean and the largest and tallest wooden church in South America. It was built in 1883 as a theatre initially, but after it burned down it was turned into a cathedral. The unique and truly magnificent interior of the cathedral is constructed out of unpainted Surinamese cedar wood and contains many richly carved ornaments on gates, doors and columns.
The Cathedral is located in
Paramaribo's inner city, which is inscribed in the list of UNESCO World
Heritage sites.
The Republic of Suriname is the smallest sovereign state in South America. The country is located in northern South America and is bordered by French Guiana to the east, Guyana to the west, Brazil to the south, and Atlantic coast to the north with capital Paramaribo.
