SRI LANKA ~Kandyan Throne and Crown of King Vikrama Rajasinha ~

...Two great postcards showing items of the islands glorious past...on display in the National Museum of Colombo the largest museum in Sri Lanka...about 100,000 objects telling the story of ancient Sri Lanka and its cultural and natural heritage... Thanks a lot Ravindra!
The throne of King Vri Wickrama Rajasinha is gold plated and is studded with rubies, sapphires and other precious stones. The eyes of the lions on the hand rests are thought to be pink sapphires.

The Crown of Sri Vikrama Rajasinha, King of Kandy 1798.

 The Kingdom of Kandy was an independent state until it was ceded to the British Empire in 1815. Since then the Crown of the former King has been displayed as a historical object.
