CANADA ~ Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump - UNESCO ~

...Great view of a fascinating place with a strange name until you read about its history (I never heard of it before) ... the park is the site of an ancient buffalo jump, where Cree native people drove bison over the cliffs in large numbers to provide for their tribes... the scenery looks gorgeous and it is a major historical and cultural site...to this day, bones are still found and evidence suggests that the cliff was used for over 5700 years...Thanks a lot Glenn, love the Star Trek stamps too!!❁◕ ‿ ◕❁  http://gemsworldpostcards.blogspot.be/

Where the foothills of the Rocky Mountains meet the Great Plains, you will discover one of the world's oldest, largest, and best preserved buffalo jumps and it is home to a museum of Blackfoot culture. The 1st Nations Blackfoot Indians have a profound attachment to this area. Their Native history goes back several thousand years according to the archaeological artifacts found in this area.

The estimated 60 million Buffalo that roamed the great plains are no longer here but the deer, elk, antelope, and birds of prey can still be found here.

In 1981, the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) designated Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump as a World Heritage Site.
